Container Gardening

 

 From The Ground Up Garden Center also focuses on container gardening, which the owners have practiced for years. They offer the following tips for home gardeners getting started:
  • Choose a pot or other container carefully, as it will serve as the centerpiece. Available in a wide range of styles, they are now offered in everything from wrought iron to lightweight composite that closely resembles clay.
  • Use a quality potting soil, preferably one that is designed to retain moisture.
  • In selecting plants for the container, keep in mind that all will need to have similar light and water requirements. Read plant labels and ask a professional for advice if you're unsure.
  • Combine an evergreen, with a flowering plant. By switching out the flowering plants as the seasons change, you can enjoy a blooming container garden throughout much of the year.
  • Place a light layer of mulch in the container. It will impart a finished look and help the soil retain moisture.

From The Ground Up Garden Center is located on Startown Road in Lincolnton, NC. Hours are 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday; 8 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays. Closed Sundays.

From Lincolnton, take Reepsville Road to Startown Road. Turn right onto Startown Road and go about four mile. From The Ground Up Garden Center will be on your left.
